Qutab Minar- The Pisa Structure of India

Located in Mehrauli location of Delhi, stands a 730m high tower splendid structure named Qutab Minar, built by Qutab-ud-din Aibak; it is one of the prominent towers not only in India, but world.  The tower owns five distinct storeys, each marking balcony. The first three storeys are built by using red sandstone, fourth and fifth are built by using marble and sandstone.

On the foothill of the tower is the Quwwat-ul-Islam mosque, which is the very first mosque built in India. Inside the mosque, there is a 7m high iron pillar on the courtyard it is believed that if you encircle this pillar with your hands supporting your back will fulfill all your wishes,

The construction of the monument started in 1200 AD, by the first Muslim ruler, but could only complete the base of the monument. Then his successor, Itutmush, constructed first three storeys, and then in 1368, Firoz Shah Tuglak constructed the rest of storeys.

The tower is richly ornamented with bands of inscriptions and balconies supported by decorated brackets. Qutab Minar undoubtedly is the masterpiece architectural work done by the ruler. The finishing of wall is such a way that it widens from top to bottom, making the structure much stronger.

There are total 378 steps inside the minar, taking you to upstairs and giving you splendid scenic view of Delhi. The stone used for making this minar has made this structure too strong to stand fearlessly since centuries. However, due to wear and tear the structure is not that erect which it used to be earlier. But it still attracts lakhs of visitors in year.
