Pushkar- The City of Temples

If you are planning to visit Rajasthan and want to visit religious place, then Pushkar is the best city to be visited. With having more than 400 temples, Pushkar is the only place where you will get a chance to visit the temple dedicated to Lord Brahma. Pushkar, the name itself has purity in it and is surrounded by beautiful hills and lakes, especially the Pushkar Lake. It is also the ideal place where one can enjoy watching cattle fair in the month of October/November.  It is also believed that taking a dip in the Pushkar Lake is like visiting “Chaar Dhaam” (4 Holy Places of India).

There are many beliefs regarding this city and one such is all gods do visit this city for five days to bless their devotees. It is always said that a visit this city is like visiting god’s door.  Let us now check some attractive places of Pushkar:

Brahma Temple: Pushkar is the only place in India where you can find Brahma Temple and holds a significant role in worshipping. One can see the idol of Lord Brahma with four armed and three faces.  Devotees here put coins to mark the birth or death of their loved ones.

Pushkar Lake: Yet another loveable place in the city and is believed that this lake was formed when the petals from the lord Brahma’s Lotus fell to the spot.  There are around 500 temples, 52 palaces and 52 Ghats around the lake.

Savitri Temple: This temple is dedicated to Goddess Savitri, wife of Lord Brahma. There is an interesting belief regarding this temple. Once Lord Brahma had to perform holy rite on a short period of time. Unfortunately, he couldn’t perform it without his wife, so he married Gayatri, local milkmaid. Later when Savitri came to know about this she went furious and cursed Brahma that he will never be worshipped, apart from only in Pushkar that too once a year.

Apart from these attractions, there is also Pushkar Fair which takes place during the month of October/November. It takes place at the majestic deserts of Pushkar and also trade fairs do happens.  One can shop all the handcraft materials along with other printed jewelries, blankets and other such things at this fair.  Apart from that, horse, camel races takes place along with music and dance which makes this fair unforgettable.

In Pushkar, one can shop some of the best antics of Rajasthan that too in affordable rates.  There are various markets names as Baza Bazaar, Sarafa Bazaar and Kedalganj Bazaar are only meant for shopping freak people.

How to Reach Pushkar:

By Air: Sanganer is the nearest airport to Pushkar which is just 146 km away.  There are daily flights that exchange from major cities of India.

By Rail:  Ajmer is the closest station to Pushkar with just 11kms away.  City Express, Shatabdi Express and other major express runs between cities including Pushkar.

By Road:  The Marwar Bus stand is the important bus route stand that is connected to other nearest cities.  Also there are regular buses that run from this city to other.
